This handsome boy was found as a stray. He did well with adults and children but did NOT do well with cats. He is super friendly, about 3-5 years is my guess, as I have visited him at the shelter. The shelter is holding him to see if he is claimed. If not, his only chance is a rescue, as they will not adopt him out to an individual, even one experienced with Rottweilers. Please pass this info on and anyone who can help, please contact me directly.
Thanks,

Shelter: He is at the animal shelter in Christiansburg Va. (under Montgomery County Animal Control.)

ECHO - ID#A767646
I am an unaltered male, black and brown Rottweiler.
The shelter staff think I am about 5 years old.
I have been at the shelter since Jun 27, 2008.
Shelter Staff made the following comments about Echo:
A VOLUNTEER WROTE: Echo, a 5 year old Rottie, was found roaming along with his girlfriend Adela (A767745), a 6 year old German Shepherd mix. Echo is a lovely gentleman. He walks nicely on a leash, is very friendly, and when he had a chance, gave a kiss to Adela who was in the cage next door to his. He appears to be very housetrained. Unfortunately, he has a cherry eye (a protruding tear gland), which can be surgically corrected. He came to us with a cold. He is limping on one of his hind legs -- which is quite swollen. How we wish his owner had taken better care of him. Echo is a big boy, weighing 141 pounds.

If someone is looking for a companion pet we have over 70 in our rescue and for approved adopters can usually find puppies if we don't have any currently. Also you can file for ILP with AKC and show them just the same, just can't breed them.
Check out our web site at www.ncrottierescue.net or email me privately at nurseklima@aol.com
You do NOT have to live in NC to adopt or foster a dog. We are always looking for fosters too.
The UK holiday lettings website Holidaylettings.co.uk has reported results of a customer survey. The report indicates that just 6% of pet owning holidaymakers have arranged EU Pet Passports for their pets.

The use of electric training aids, including shock collars, is to be banned in Wales. The Welsh Assembly Government has announced that it is to produce draft detailed Regulations introducing the ban.

This 3-4 year old rottie mix came to the Bergen County Animal Shelter in Teterboro, NJ when his owner's granddaughter developed asthma. The owner told the shelter that Rocky is housebroken and likes to be cuddled. Rocky was very scared and nervous when he arrived at the shelter so he protected his "stuff", like food and toys. Now that he's become more accustomed to his environment, he's back to his old self again – a sweet boy who loves to go for walks and cuddle. He likes to “sit” for treats (although he shouldn’t have too many since he has a little bit of a belly!). Just needs to get out more and exercise and he should slim down. He enjoys walks with the volunteers and likes to lean on people to get closer. Since he still has some guarding issues, we think he’d do best with older children or adults in the house – and it would help if you have some experience with dominant breeds. Overall, he’d just like someone to love him and pet him – it’s one of his most favorite things in the world. Here’s what one of the volunteers has to say about Rocky: "I call Rocky my velcro boy. He just loves when I pet him. When I sit outside, he leans against me for attention. If I stop, he looks at my with those loving eyes and begs for me to continue. Rocky loves to walk and is always anxious to get out of his kennel." If you’re looking for a loyal buddy, you’ve found your match! Won’t you stop by and come meet Rocky so he can show you what a sweet guy he is!
If you can give this dog the second chance he deserves, please stop by the Bergen County Animal Shelter to meet him. The shelter is located at 100 United Lane, Teterboro, NJ, near Routes 17 & 46 in the meadowlands area of northern NJ and they are open 7 afternoons per week for adoptions, until 8 PM on Thursdays. Rescues, please visit the shelter's website at http://www.co.bergen.nj.us/bcas/rescue.html to read their rescue policies before contacting the shelter. Rocky's shelter ID # is 66341

Dear Animal Shelter, Rescue/Adoption, Welfare, Rights Organization,
The Queenie Foundation, Inc. invites you to our 13th annual (and
CT's second) International Homeless Animals' Day on Saturday,
August 16, 2008 from 4 – 8 pm, at the East Hartford Town Green
(directions at our website: www.queeniefoundation.org/ihad.htm ).
The purpose of our International Homeless Animals' Day event is to
bring the public to the advocacy community to get it involved.
Please go to www.isaronline.org for more information on International Society for Animals Rights, the coordinator. I also invite you look at our website: www.queeniefoundation.org to get an idea of what we're about.
The Event:
All advocacy organizations are invited to set up their table starting at
3 pm; the public is invited to attend beginning at 4 pm. Registration
for tax-exempt organizations is $30. (If you know of a pro-animal vendor who would like to participate, please provide our contact information to them.) Please mail your check made payable to The Queenie Foundation, Inc. to 164 Wetherell St., Manchester 06040. Invite your volunteers, family, friends, co-workers and neighbors; leashed companion animals are always welcome. We also encourage you to post this event on your website and list it in your newsletter.
The Meet `n Greet is from 4 – 7pm with a Blessing of the Animals at 6:30; the presentation is 7 - 8 pm, which includes a candlelight remembrance at the conclusion.
Please RSVP to queeniefound@hotmail.com if you plan to have a table.
This is an event to inform the public about the tragedy of animal
overpopulation, specifically dogs and cats, and that spay/neuter is the
solution, however, it can apply to any species, such as rabbits, horses,
farm animals and wildlife. We invite you to wear your organization
T-shirt, display your banner, put out your donation jar and fundraisers,
bring your literature and photos of your adoptable animals, sign people
up on your mailing list, make appointments with prospective adopters and invite the public to volunteer with your organization. This is not an
adoption event. If you are planning to attend with some of the animals
in your system or personal animals, please make sure that they are
sterilized and current on vaccinations. No organization will be allowed
to participate with unsterilized animals.
I look forward to meeting everyone who did not attend last year and
seeing all of you again who did. It is my aspiration, as it is every
year, that International Homeless Animals' Day will be a thing of
the past in the very near future; we can't do that without everyone
participating and informing the public that spay/neuter stops the
killing.
Sincerely,
Enid
